“And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make”
-The Beatles
Yesterday my Daily Affirmation read:
Happy Valentine’s Day! On this day of celebrating love, everyone I meet and see will reflect back to me who I am and how to love myself.
I feel every day is an opportunity to love and everyday is an opportunity to forgive and everyday is an opportunity to more of Who We Are, not who that hurt part of us dictates who we are.
Here is what I know for sure.
The more I learn to love myself, the more I am able to share love and feel grounded in my being, who I am. In giving I receive so much more. I affirm today that as I give love, I can feel it come back more readily. As I grow in self love and self respect, I am able to give it more freely to my partner, my family, friends and OnePinky community.
Love is my favorite word of all.
I love LOVE!.
No matter how challenging my life has been, I have always leaned into the love and support of others.
When I was a young teen, in Jr. High School, I had a poster on my wall, which read, “Love is the Answer”. I loved that poster so much and it was different shades of PINK!
I remember someone coming over and criticizing it saying, “Love is not the answer”. He went on to tell me that, “Love does not pay the bills, love does not make you happy”…and he went on and on about how Love is just a word and really does not mean much of anything. I want you to keep in mind that I was very young and he was an adult.
I remember feeling really sad about his opinion about love and remember thinking, he is right and I am wrong. He was the adult after all and as much as I believed in the power of love for someone my age, I looked up to him and doubted myself.
I can look back at that time now and laugh. Laugh at myself for trusting his authority and doubting my truth. I had a rough abusive beginning and yet it was the power of love that held me up. That I was drawn to a poster that read, “Love is the Answer”, when I was back in 8th grade and in a foster home, fat with a very low self esteem tells me a lot about my character.
The abuse was real and yet my belief in the power of love and what was possible was very real for me too, even up against my harshest critics.
How do you define love?
I invite you to stop and reflect on what love means to you and how it has shaped your life.
For me, Love is the Answer.
It is the universal force and truth of goodness, light and inner peace.
We are all loving. (Some of us may have a harder time feeling it or accessing it and we will get there if we do not give up on ourselves).
I express my deep love for you all by sharing my experiences and holding space for you to see the loving soul you are.
I love you, XO
Laura
