Suffering is Optional

The title of this post is a friendly reminder to myself today. 

I have been suffering and I have to learn to be responsible for this suffering.  Things keep happening in my life, either a loss or change, and I find myself arguing with it.  By arguing with it I mean not accepting how it is.  Pain is there, it is what it is.  Suffering is optional, as suffering equals pain plus nonacceptance.  How much easier my life would be if I just accepted versus argued!!  Some days I am not even sure what I am arguing about, it may simply be unconscious and a habit.  I hate to admit this, but maybe I am addicted to suffering?  Some days it sure feels like it.

Any ideas Pinkies on how to work more with acceptance?
